St. Louis Blues
An injury to Jake Allen opened the door for Brian Elliott to get more consistent starts in net. Elliott is expected to make a 12th straight start while the Blues try to build on a strong offensive showing Tuesday night against the last-place Winnipeg Jets. Allen went 18-10-3 with a 2.17 goals-against average and five shutouts in 33 games, getting the bulk of the playing time over Elliott before going down with a knee injury last month. NHL teams looking to add a rental defenseman before the trade deadline will have to look elsewhere as the Winnipeg Jets signed Dustin Byfuglien to a $38 million, five-year extension. The 30-year-old Byfuglien will be part of the Jets' long-range plan at a salary-cap hit of $7.6 million and is relieved he doesn't have to worry about finding a new landing spot this summer as an unrestricted free agent. Winnipeg Jets forward Drew Stafford was suspended one game by the NHL’s Department of Player Safety for high-sticking Colorado Avalanche defenseman Nick Holden in a Saturday game. The play occurred at the 15:15 mark of the second period. “As the whistle blows, Stafford recklessly spins around with his stick extended, driving his stick forcefully into Holden’s face,” said the Department of Player Safety in the above video. “While accept Stafford's assertion that he did not intentionally strike Holden in the face, he is responsible for the consequences of swinging his stick in such a forceful and reckless fashion.” Holden was cut on the play, but did return. Below is a photo of Holden after he came back.  Continue to Article

St. Louis Blues
Following a pair of listless losses, the Chicago Blackhawks and Corey Crawford slammed the door defensively and returned to their winning ways. Crawford stopped 25 shots for his league-leading seventh shutout, rookie Artemi Panarin and Andrew Shaw scored and the Blackhawks beat the St. Louis Blues 2-0 on Sunday night to end a two-game losing streak. The defending Stanley Cup champion Blackhawks rebounded from a 2-1 setback at Tampa Bay and a 4-0 drubbing at Florida that followed a franchise-record 12-game winning streak. Continue to Article

St. Louis Blues
Nathan MacKinnon has made it a habit of scoring big goals late against the St. Louis Blues. MacKinnon tied the game late in the third period, Semyon Varlamov made 33 saves and stopped all three attempts in the shootout and the Colorado Avalanche beat the Blues 2-1 on Friday night. The end of regulation was almost a repeat of Colorado's 4-3 win over St. Louis on Jan. 6. Continue to Article
