Wake Forest and Notre Dame Thread

Wake Forest
Notre Dame's previous stint as a ranked team lasted four weeks, but this one could prove even shorter - especially if leading scorer Demetrius Jackson remains out. Jackson will likely sit again as the No. 25 Fighting Irish look to avoid back-to-back defeats Sunday against scuffling Wake Forest. Notre Dame was ranked in the first three polls this season but dropped out after losing two of three to finish November. Continue to Article

Notre Dame
After Notre Dame's collective heart dropped when its leading scorer went down, the Fighting Irish now believe they're prepared to move forward. Coach Mike Brey has ruled Demetrius Jackson out Thursday night when No. 25 Notre Dame looks to match its longest conference winning streak since joining the ACC and end its recent struggles at Syracuse. Jackson also could be sidelined for this weekend's home game against Wake Forest after he suffered a right hamstring injury in the opening minutes of Saturday's 76-49 victory over visiting Boston College. Notre Dame
Michael Young scored a season-high 26 points and No. 24 Pittsburgh held on after wasting a big lead for an 86-82 victory over Notre Dame on Saturday. The Irish used a 9-0 run to cut a 16-point deficit to 79-77 on a 3-pointer by Demetrius Jackson and layup by Steve Vasturia. James Robinson ended a 1-of-9 shooting streak for the Panthers with a basket inside. Continue to Article

Notre Dame
Pittsburgh and Notre Dame don't have much room to improve offensively, so both teams have turned their focus to playing consistently good defense. Lock-down defense doesn't figure to be in the cards Saturday in South Bend, where the 24th-ranked Panthers play their first true road game against the Fighting Irish in a battle of two of the nation's most efficient offenses. Pitt averaged 67.6 points through 14 games last season and is almost 18 ahead of that right now, putting up 85.3 per game after Wednesday's 89-84 win over Georgia Tech. Continue to Article
